Who needs LAMP?

First came LAMP. (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP.)

Then came MARS. (MySQL, Apache, Rails, Solaris.)

Now, the acronym to end all acronyms.

PAID. PostgreSQL, Apache, Internet, Django.

I can see the job ads now: "This is a PAID position."

Get PAID. Use Django.

You will have PAID your friends a favor by spreading the word.

Here's hoping Bill de hÓra doesn't get MADD that we came up with another acronym at the same time!

Bill de hÓra May 3, 2006 at 5 p.m.

Hey, I'm MADD about getting PAID!

Petro Vekrhogliad May 3, 2006 at 6:16 p.m.

nice one. i have to start using that now.

Julius Caesar May 3, 2006 at 8:03 p.m.

Internet!?!? What?

Jacob May 3, 2006 at 9:17 p.m.

I've been calling it LAPD -- Linux, Apache, PostgreSQL, and Django.

PAID is good, too :)

Marcelo Minholi May 3, 2006 at 9:57 p.m.

How about MAID? Keep whole house clean with MAID, now using Ajax. ;)

Matt Barger May 3, 2006 at 11:11 p.m.

I was thinking of PADL (pronounced 'paddle') -- PostgreSQL, Apache, Django, and Linux.

Clever lever May 4, 2006 at 12:51 a.m.

RADKAWNP - Rails And Django Kicks Ass, Who Needs PHP

Yes I know it's not as fancy as PAID but it's the meaning that counts, and this one is all fuzzy inside.

spacedman May 4, 2006 at 2:28 a.m.

POWNED:

POstgres+Web+NEtwork+Django.

Although maybe you dont want to go tell your boss that your web server is POWNED...

int19h May 4, 2006 at 3:17 a.m.

I think "Web", "Network" and "Internet" is too weak. LAPD is the obvious one, but a bit hard to pronounce. We need more vowels.

By including the GNU in GNU/Linux and using "Po" from PostgreSQL, one could make:

GLAPOD (GNU, Linux, Apache, POstgreSQL, Django)

Which is my suggestion. :-)

In addition, "GLAPOD" sounds like "happypod" in most scandinavian languages.

David May 4, 2006 at 3:47 a.m.

LAPD: It Beats All The Other Frameworks.

That's bad. Somebody should sue me. 8)

David S. May 4, 2006 at 9:06 a.m.

Hey everybody, we're all gonna get Linux, Apache, Internet, Django!
-- with apologies to Al Czervik

TRauMa May 4, 2006 at 11:20 a.m.

You, sir, are completely nuts. :-)

Pedro Lima May 4, 2006 at 2 p.m.

LAID, PAID and with a magical theme.

Bryan May 4, 2006 at 4:26 p.m.

PDL (pronounced peddle): Postgresql, Django, Lighttpd

Sia May 4, 2006 at 7:23 p.m.

How about PADD
Apache + Django + PostgreSQL + Dojo

Or how about DIPUYAD

Apache + Django + PostgreSQL + Dojo + Use Your Imagination

emm... i guess PAID is good

Brantley May 5, 2006 at 12:51 a.m.

DMSR

Django + Mysql + Syncdb + Runserver

It's not a great acronym, but it's litteral to get started programming web-applications.

Jeff Croft May 5, 2006 at 1:03 a.m.

Why not just call it LDAP (pronounced el-dap?)

Oh wait, I know why. Nevermind.

gord May 5, 2006 at 8:52 a.m.

i just call it 'rockin cool'. i feel that summerises django servers perfectly.

Collin L May 5, 2006 at 1:13 p.m.

LAMBDA

Linux Apache MySql Best Django Application

same old May 5, 2006 at 10:38 p.m.

how about STUPID ?

Still Tacky Uptight Python Intarweb Daemon

huh? huh? clever eh?

p.s. someone was gonna do it sooner or later

Sean Roth May 5, 2006 at 11:36 p.m.

MAID is better. Gotta love mysql.

Olive May 6, 2006 at 5 a.m.

For me it should be simply PAD(A) Python Apache Django (Ajax).
One should not mention any OS, database product or techno (what about adding connectors for XQuery ?).

You may ask: why do you mention Apache then ?
Just because mod_python rocks and runs very fast.

And I hope we wil remove parenthesis around Ajax soon.

Pissed off guy May 6, 2006 at noon

LAMP = Linux + Apache + MySQL + (PHP or Perl or Python).

Check on Wikipedia, you moron.

Adrian Holovaty May 6, 2006 at 12:33 p.m.

Pissed off guy: Nice to see such passion!

same old May 6, 2006 at 2:03 p.m.

what is wrong with you people?

Django team is not asking us, they are creating a new acronym FWIW.

PAID is apt. "Use Django, Get PAID" is an awesome slogan!.. compare that to lame stupid stuff everyone else is
coming up with like someone asked you lamers to come up with an acronym to begin with

One problem, P in PAID stands for Postgresql and not Python? that is odd

like it but... May 6, 2006 at 4:43 p.m.

I for Internet!? thats so L for LAME!

Adrian Holovaty May 6, 2006 at 5:24 p.m.

same old: Actually this entry was a lighthearted attempt at humor -- it's not a Big Official Acronym That Everyone Should Start Using Right Away Or Else. I, for one, have enjoyed the acronyms that people have come up with. :)

Ricardo May 6, 2006 at 6:03 p.m.

WIN = Windows + ISS + .NET

:-D

Rafael May 7, 2006 at 9:57 a.m.

DAMP - Django + Apache + Mod_Python + PostgreSQL

Vowelless May 7, 2006 at 2:11 p.m.

PCMD - Python Cherokee Mysql Django

best I could manage without a vowel in my stack :p

PLAD == LAPD

Carlos May 8, 2006 at 5:42 a.m.

Am I the only one reading 'LAPD' as in LapDee? And I don't mean the Police Department, but the... well... dance ;-)

Adam Blinkinsop May 8, 2006 at 12:16 p.m.

I don't know if an acronym will work: I'm currently using Django on all three database platforms (sqlite at work, when I need a quick test-commit, Postgres at home, and MySQL on Dreamhost, where the production server is), on multiple different web servers (the dev server, Lighttpd, Apache).

There's just too much flexibility to lock it down to one set of letters!

Some troll. May 8, 2006 at 5:02 p.m.

PEDO
Python, (its) Eggs, Django, Operating (system).

Oh snap!

spacedman May 9, 2006 at 7:48 a.m.

My last one:

"Linux Apache Postgres Django And No Contrived Ebbreviations"

ouch.

same 0ld May 9, 2006 at 1:50 p.m.

I think "Use Django, Get PAID" is brilliant!

Noah May 9, 2006 at 2:31 p.m.

OSWSDD

Opererating System Web Server Database Django

Why narrow it to just one OS, Database or web server? How about we screw it all and just call it Django it'll help the marketing...

Ramses May 9, 2006 at 5:42 p.m.

just do it... DAPOPY
Django+Apache+POstgresql+PYthon

The Bartus May 9, 2006 at 6:54 p.m.

I love PA"Internet"D ... it's so blatantly irreverent and all-encompassing ... almost like what Pissed off guy pointed out with "LAMP".

jma May 11, 2006 at 11:47 p.m.

I'm working towards FrAPPD (FreeBSD - Apache - Python - PostgreSQL - Django).

kilian May 12, 2006 at 1:43 a.m.

Nothing more needs to be SAID (SQLite, Apache, Internet, Django). End of all acronyms. :)

heg May 12, 2006 at 11:03 a.m.

Internet => Information ?

Dan May 12, 2006 at 4:59 p.m.

DAPPER
Django Apache Python Postgres Exceeds Rails

(MS) BOB May 14, 2006 at 12:26 p.m.

It should be Linux Lighttpd Postgres Django,
LLPD (Ouch try pronouncing that!).

casey May 14, 2006 at 2:54 p.m.

Don't tell the CIA, but I'm currently working on developing WMD (Windows/MySQL/Django).

MS BOB -- how about LiLiPaD (Linux, Lighttpd, Postgres and Django)...?

Lalo Martins May 15, 2006 at 1:28 a.m.

I agree with Blinkinsop, there's too much flexibility there.

What about: Django, Javascript, Ajax, Network, Gall and an OS? I think it's the best acronym.

timothy Johnson May 16, 2006 at 11:25 a.m.

I think PLAD or even PLAID is the best. I'll go whip up a tartan and we can all wear kilts!

LAID = Linux, Apache, Internet, Django

Getting LAID sounds more appealing than getting PAID, but with Django we can do both.

So how does listening to a jazz singer make me a better php programmer?

I listened to him for 48 hours straight, and my code doesn't look any better than when I first started

brick tamland October 18, 2006 at 12:40 a.m.

i love lamp.
